Based in London since 2007, Andreas Lechthaler studied architecture in Germany and Italy. His architectural work has expanded into research, conception and design of spatial solutions for exhibitions and artwork production.
In his current projects Lechthaler is interested in the aesthetics and expression of temporariness in construction, along with the possibility of economical and sustainable production. With a focus on natural and artificial light as a means of defining space, and an attention to transparency, his work continues to explore interests pursued in earlier building projects and methodologies. Lechthaler’s ongoing residential and commercial projects investigate the creation of accessible spaces, where ideas of public and personal overlap and clash.
Recent selected projects have included exhibition design for Pipilotti Rist at Kunsthaus Zürich, (2015/16), History is Now at Hayward Gallery, London (2015), Mirrorcity at Hayward Gallery, London (2014), Rapid Response Collection – V&A Museum at Bi-City Biennale UABB, Shenzhen, China (2013), along with display design for BLANK – Hackney Council event space, London (2014) and the refurbishment of SprüthMagers Gallery, Los Angeles (2015/16).
