Writer Douglas Kahn and artist Aura Satz discuss recurring themes in their respective work, encompassing vibration, sound-writing and measurement, notation, encryption, propagation and transmission.

Douglas Kahn is Professor of Media and Innovation at the National Institute for Experimental Arts at the University of New South Wales, a fellow with the Australian Research Council, and author of Noise, Water, Meat: A History of Sound in the Arts (MIT Press, 1999), and Earth Sound Earth Signal: Energies and Earth Magnitude in the Arts (University of California Press, 2013).
