Education and other groups visiting the Biennale can take advantage of a range of tours offered across most Biennale Embassies, presented by Biennale staff and guides as well as in partnership with the the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Artspace, Carriageworks and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia. Use the links above to book your visit to the aforementioned venues.
We encourage schools and other groups planning on visiting Cockatoo Island for the 20th Biennale in 2016 to register their interest in a self-guided or educator-led visit by completing the following booking request form.
Self-guided visits enable you to explore the island at your leisure. Purchase a 20th Biennale Guidebook at one of our venues, download an education kit or visit our website to plan your visit.
Educator-led tours are free and run for approximately 50 minutes, departing from the Biennale Info Hub on Cockatoo Island. Tours give an overview of the ideas behind the 20th Biennale, look at a selection of works and can be tailored to suit the interests of your group.
- This is a booking request only – your booking is not confirmed until you’ve received notice from the Biennale of Sydney
- Please complete the form at least four weeks in advance of your visit to ensure we are able to accommodate your group
- School groups are requested to be supervised at a ratio of 1:20 for secondary students and 1:10 for primary students.
The Biennale of Sydney is providing a free ferry service for education groups operating on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the Biennale (not during school holidays). This service will depart from/return to Campbell’s Cove Wharf (10 minute walk from Circular Quay) and arrive to/depart from Parramatta Wharf on Cockatoo Island according to the following schedule:
To Cockatoo Island (outgoing times): 10 am, 11 am and 12 pm
From Cockatoo Island (return times): 12.30 pm, 1.30 pm, 2.30 pm and 3.30 pm
Please note: If your group is unable to travel on Tuesdays and Thursdays, you will need to make alternative transport arrangements.
Groups taking advantage of the Tuesday and Thursday ferry service will be sent tickets closer to the excursion date.
Please note: groups traveling on the Biennale ferry must travel both to and from Cockatoo Island on the Biennale service (similarly, if making own arrangements, i.e. Sydney Ferries, please organise your travel in both directions).
