Curated by Isabel Carlos, the theme ‘On Reason and Emotion’ was inspired by Antonio Damasio; a neurologist who believed emotions played a critical role in high-level cognition.

The 14th Biennale of Sydney featured 51 artists from 32 countries. While most of the exhibition was held within the MCA and AGNSW, a number of new projects were created for specific outdoor sites including the Royal Botanic Gardens and the Sydney Opera House Forecourt. The close proximity of the venues and the overall concept allowed the exhibition to lead the viewer through the city, creating a walkable ‘art’ circuit.
