We launched the visual identity for the 19th Biennale of Sydney last month, which was created by Leuver Design. You might recognise their work from La Croix in Potts Point, as well as Sydney Film Festival 2013, Universal Restaurant, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Brandenburg Orchestra, Dinosaur Designs, University of Queensland Art Museum and Opera Australia. Check out more of their handiwork at leuverdesign.com.au.
‘Having always admired Juliana’s curatorial talent and commitment to art in Australia, the studio was excited to pitch for what we know will be a fantastic Biennale. The evocative title You Imagine What You Desire, was also a captivating, multifaceted touchstone to work from, and offered many conceptual opportunities for us to explore.
‘The selected concept, like most good ideas, arrived over a morning coffee on my balcony in Elizabeth Bay. Plain-set typography that reflected the materialisation of these desires – a simple fade.
‘It reveals a transition from nothing to something, abstract to concrete, ideas appearing and desires emerging. The rollout of the 19th Biennale identity explores this idea further with colour and imagery treated with a fade, while not overwhelming the amazing program Juliana has curated.
‘Leuver Design are so chuffed to be involved with next year’s festival and can’t wait to see it transform Sydney, as it always does.’ – Marita Leuver, Creative Director
