Who is the Biennale of Sydney for?

When is the Biennale of Sydney on? 

The 24th Biennale of Sydney, Ten Thousand Suns, is on from 9 March – 10 June 2024.  Opening hours vary for each location, please see each of the opening hours here: Locations

 

Where is the Biennale of Sydney held? 

Ten Thousand Suns is held across 7 locations including White Bay Power Station, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA), Chau Chak Wing Museum at the University of Sydney, Sydney Opera House, UNSW Galleries and Artspace. Where do I buy tickets to the Biennale of Sydney? 

Exhibition entry to the Biennale of Sydney is free.  No tickets or registration is required to view the exhibition.

Our extensive programming also includes a selection of free to reserve and paid events. These include artist talks, workshops, live music and performances.

How do I get to the Biennale of Sydney? 

We encourage visitors to use public transportation to get to the locations exhibiting the Biennale of Sydney. Find the best way to visit White Bay Power Station here. 

 

What is the difference between the Biennale of Sydney and Ten Thousand Suns? 

The Biennale of Sydney is a biannual international contemporary art event. Ten Thousand Suns is the 24th edition of the Biennale of Sydney, open from 9 March – 10 June 2024. You can learn more about our past Biennales here.

 

Is the Biennale of Sydney appropriate for children? 

Yes, the Biennale of Sydney is for everyone. We also offer a range of programs that cater for children and families. You can view them here.

 

How often is the Biennale of Sydney on? 

The Biennale of Sydney is on every second year. The 24th Biennale of Sydney (2024) commences on 9 March and will end on 10 June 2024. 

 

What are the opening hours of the exhibition?

Is the Biennale of Sydney open on public holidays?

Art Gallery of New South Wales is closed Easter Friday.

Artspace is closed Easter Friday and Easter Monday.

Chau Chak Wing Museum at the University of Sydney is closed public holidays.

Museum of Contemporary Art Australia is open all public holidays including Easter, ANZAC Day and King’s birthday.

UNSW Galleries is closed on public holidays.

White Bay Power Station is open all public holidays including Easter, ANZAC Day and King’s birthday.

What are there conditions of entry to White Bay Power Station?

First Nations people are respectfully advised that this exhibition includes works, names, voices, and images of deceased people. This includes cultural practices and artistic intellectual property of a sensitive nature.

By entering the exhibition, you consent to interview(s), photography, audio recording, video recording and its/their use for promotional, or any other purpose by Biennale of Sydney. Images, photos and/or videos may be used to promote similar Biennale of Sydney events in the future and highlight the event.

This exhibition includes explicit content such as images and text that may be confronting, including stylised images of genitalia and coarse language.

White Bay Power Station is a remediated space. Please be mindful of uneven ground, low clearances and unfinished surfaces. Please do not enter areas that are restricted.

No external alcoholic beverages to be brought into the venue.

No smoking including the use of e-cigarettes

No illegal or illicit substances.

No bicycles, scooters, skateboards, or skates.

No drones or other remote-controlled devices.

No pets. Service animals are welcome.

Patrons are responsible for their own personal possessions and must not leave bags or possessions unattended at any time.

Unauthorized photography or filming is prohibited.

Ticketing

When will I receive my ticket?

Your e-ticket / Print at Home ticket will be sent to you via email 3 days before your event.

 

The event I want to attend is sold out, what do I do?

Occasionally, people cancel or release their tickets, please check the website or our social media channels for additional releases. If you’re not able to secure a ticket, please have a look at the program, there are plenty of exciting events occurring over the course of the Biennale.


Getting involved

I’m an artist/performer – can I apply to be in the Festival? 

The Biennale of Sydney is a fully curated event under the Artistic Directors’ vision. 

 

I’m interested in working at the Biennale of Sydney.
